The special interest group on “Law and Ethics of Robotics” is in the Robotics Society of Japan.

Rapidly developing artificial intelligence and communication technology promises further proliferation of intelligent robots in our society in the near future. However, debates on emerging legal issues regarding to the social implementation of robots should be more deepened. For example, how should we deal with accidents that can be caused by autonomously behaving robots with artificial intelligence? How should we evaluate the impact of co-regulation of robot design in the context of law enforcement? To probe such issues with concerned experts we set up the special research committee on “Law and Ethics of Robotics.”
