Winner of RoboCup Japan Open 2021 @Home OPL Technical Challenge

The RoboCup Japan Open 2021@Home Open Platform League (OPL) was held online on March 22th and 23th, 2022. Team Hibikino-Musashi@Home won the second place in the main competition and they won the first place in the Technical Challenge.

In RoboCup@Home OPL, participants compete in performance of tasks using their originally developed hardware. Hibikino-Musashi@Home was able to accurately identify objects in the room and clean up all of them. Unfortunately, however, they finished in second place.

In the Technical Challenge, each team shows the research results through robot demonstrations. Hibikino-Musashi@Home used a robot with flexible tactile sensors developed in our project which learned a “comfortable” way to grip an object by reservoir computing, and gave a demonstration in which the robot gently guided and assisted people. As a result, the usefulness of the system and the way for the robot to interact with people were highly evaluated and they were awarded the first prize in the Technical Challenge. As well as this achievement, we will further develop technologies that effectively combine soft robotics and reservoir computing.
